Apart Dades I’ve seen many other beautiful places and towns in Morocco: Tangier, Chefchaouen, Rabat, Casablanca, Bouznika, Essaouira, Taghazout, Agadir, Marrakech, Ourika Valley, Ouarzazate, Merzouga and the desert.
I’ve been travelling often in the country in the last two years but, in Dades Valley, I feel at home and I visit every time that I go back.
I don’t find very often places that have this effect on my mood; till now just one in Tuscany near Scansano and another one in the mountains of Susa Valley near Turin.
Therefore I started comparing them and asking myself: “ Why?”
I like those mountains and their colours : red, all shades of orange, ocher, beige.
That smell in the air: mostly fig trees that remind me my childhood and my grandparents’ house
Light at sunrise and sunset : so changeable and golden!
Wind: sometimes very strong, giving me lots of energy
But hundreds of birds chanting with different voices, frogs,… No dog barking desperately as I hear everywhere in Italy. The prayer from the mosque. Other human sounds are mostly children playing or artisans working.
People I meet are reserved and silent but greet me respectfully: “Salem
alekum” or “Bonjour”. Most of them invite me for a mint tea and enjoy chatting in French or English with great sense of humour
Food: so healthy and natural! Mostly tajin, couscous and soups. Sometimes Berber omelettes, fresh bread every morning. Often delicious msemems (similar to crepes but more tasty and squared). All cooked using fresh vegetables and olive oil …

and…last but not least, the incredible green eyes of the Berber little girl Nadia
that I met there!
We can’t understand each other but she recognizes me every time that I go back and we play as months didn’t separate us at all…:)
